Home care exists to help promote individuals to live independently in their own homes. Medacs employs home care workers to support individuals to maintain the skills they have to continue living their chosen lifestyles. This involves a worker visiting people in their own home for a period of typically between 30 minutes to 1 hour, then travelling to the next person. The role requires you to support or assist with personal and practical care tasks which are listed below.

 

Personal Care

· Washing, bathing, showering for both male and female customers

· Dressing

· Haircare

· Dental hygiene

· Assisting with toilet needs and continence products e.g. catheter bags, stoma bags and pads

· Eating and drinking- includes preparation and assisting to eat

· Administer/ Support with medication

· Ensuring comfort- physically, environmentally and emotionally

· Mobility and using mobility equipment

 

Practical Care

· Shopping/ pension collection and paying bills

· Light cleaning

· Laundry , ironing, bed making and changing

· Emptying rubbish bins

· Emptying and cleaning commodes

· Assisting to care for pets

· Attending appointments

· Ensuring safety and security of customers and their environment

 

Record Keeping/ written communication

· Completing daily support records, medication charts, accident forms and body maps- at every visit

· Reading and following care plans, risk assessments and manual handling plans

· Reporting concerns both written and verbally

· Having effective verbal and written communication skills

 

We provide theory and practical based training on both personal and practical care which is carried out in our training room. Our training aims to strengthen the skills you already have and apply them into safe working practices. We also offer further career development and enrolment onto QCF level 2 and 3 (was NVQ) in Health and Social Care.

 

It is important you understand the role of a home care worker and consider what is involved before you commit.

· Establish and maintain the trust and confidence of our customers

· Maintain confidentiality of information within the care circle

· Be punctual and staying for the allocated time of each visit

· Encourage service users to do as much as possible for themselves

· Maintain a high standard of work and be accountable for your actions/inactions

Requirements of the role

· Provide appropriate notice for changes in availability including days, times and area of work

· Your appearance and behaviour should reflect that of a professional individual providing a high standard of care

· If you are relying on your vehicle for work then you must be responsible for its maintenance and ensure it is road worthy 

· To keep in contact with your appointed manager to provide updates regarding your work load
