King’s Cross Sounds – the new music project at King’s Cross

Dame Evelyn Glennie, Musician in Residence, King's Cross

Dame Evelyn Glennie, the world-renowned percussionist, is our first King’s Cross Musician in Residence in partnership with PRS for Music Foundation. As part of her residency, Evelyn will be working on a brand new project – King’s Cross Sounds.

She’s calling on everyone who lives, works, studies or visits King’s Cross to get involved and help create a new piece of music. Evelyn explains the project and what she’s hoping to accomplish in the video above.

Send us your sounds

Is there a sound that you associate with King’s Cross? It might be the splash of the fountains, a bike free-wheeling, the rumble of a train, a sound from your walk to work, or something you experience as you have your morning coffee. Whatever it might be, we’re asking that you record and upload the sound and tell us what it means to you.

Once you have decided on your sound, follow these steps:

Option 1 – email your sound to us

  1. Record your sound on a smartphone
  2. Write a short email letting us know: your age, gender, connection with Kings Cross, and why you have chosen this sound
  3. Email this to KXSound@gmail.com

Option 2 – upload your sound below

  1. Record your sound on a smartphone
  2. Upload your sound to SoundCloud
  3. Copy the link to your sound on SoundCloud
  4. Fill in the form below and paste your SoundCloud link in the box provided

Your recordings will serve as inspiration for Evelyn’s composition and will be sent to her on a weekly basis. She will weave the sounds into a new piece of music which will be performed later this year.
