In collaboration with Neal’s Yard Dairy and an alliance of natural wine importers, Canopy Market is welcoming a line-up of the best British raw milk cheeses and low-intervention, natural wines from across Europe. Visitors will be able to eat, drink and buy rare and small-scale cheeses and wines as well as get involved in tastings and demonstrations, including a live cheese-making session hosted by Neal’s Yard Dairy.
Under the restored Victorian glass and steel roof, Neal’s Yard Dairy are bringing together an amazing range of small scale, farmhouse cheese producers from the UK, often made from the milk of single herds of cows, sheep or goats. Cheese aficionados will be able to meet the producers and buy direct, with cheeses including world-famous Montgomery cheddar made in Somerset, Berkswell, Innes Log, Lincolnshire Poacher and Stichelton, the crumbly ‘real Stilton’ blue cheese made to a traditional recipe on the Welbeck Estate in Nottingham. Neal’s Yard Dairy will also be hosting ‘meet-the-producer’ tastings and filling a huge cheese-making cauldron with 120 litres of raw milk, ready to be transformed into an Alpine-style cheese.
Working with Wright’s Wines, Canopy Market has also invited their pick of the country’s natural wine importers with the same low intervention ethos as the cheese-makers to uncork their favourite rare bottles throughout the weekend. Each major wine-producing region will be represented by importers specialising in French, Italian, Spanish and German wines. From light and juicy to deep and funky, wine importers such as Tutto Wines, Under the Bonnet, Wright’s Wines, Gergovie and Otros Vinos will be pouring pure unadulterated wines for every taste, while guests can also select their favourite bottles to wrap up and take home.
For beer drinkers there will be London’s best craft beers on tap at the Hop Counter, alongside Canopy Market’s carefully selected artisan food and drink traders. There’s south London cult bakers Little Bread Pedlar, uncompromising desserts from A Pie Party, Essex smoked salmon from Lambert & Jackson, and fresh hand-made pasta from Italian family outfit Love Farina. Canopy Market also hosts a rotating range of emerging art, craft and designer-makers for those looking for something beautiful and unique.
Fabio Diu, Director of Real Food Festival which runs Canopy Market says, “Many people don’t realise that wine is actually mostly a very industrialised product, and not always as artisan as its image belies. With natural wines, however, you get the real deal: wine that has been produced sustainably and as close to pure, fermented grape juice as you can get. We want this event to introduce more people to these exciting wines.
And what better companion to good wine than good cheese brought to you by Neal’s Yard Dairy? It’s no exaggeration to say that Neal’s Yard Dairy have almost single-handedly been responsible for saving British farmhouse cheese-making, and it’s really exciting to be able to work with them to showcase some of the best British, raw milk cheese-makers under the canopy.”
Raw & Natural will be free to attend and will take place on the 25th, 26th & 27th October at Canopy Market.
