Embrace Flower Power at King’s Cross this Easter

Don’t miss the exciting programme of activities popping up in and around King’s Cross this Easter

  • A special Flower Power theme for the Let’s Play: Easter Festival opens at King’s Cross, running for two weeks from 6-22 April.
  • Take a ride on the ‘Easter Express’ train and discover something wonderful at every stop.
  • Highlights include an Easter special Canopy Market, complete with petting zoo and Big Easter Egg Hunt, with a chocolate treat for everyone who takes part.
  • Coal Drops Yard, London’s newest shopping district, hosts programme of Easter inspired events.

Spring is finally here and for the Easter season, King’s Cross will be getting a Flower Power makeover. Get set for two whole weeks (6-22 April) of fun activities for all the family, including an array of arts and crafts workshops from our Lower Stable Street geniuses – STORE Store. And don’t miss the grand finale in the form of our Easter Canopy Market which will transform West Handyside Canopy into an urban farm, complete with petting zoo.

Jump aboard the ‘Easter Express’ land train in Granary Square and go full steam ahead to Coal Drops Yard where excitement awaits at every stop. In the day, the train will be stopping off at workshops, and in the evening will be transformed into the ‘Soul Train’, allowing adults to take a ride to the best bars for some Easter inspired cocktails.

Over Easter weekend (20-22 April), renowned landscape architect Dan Pearson, will be transforming The Yard into a sea of beautiful flowers. Meanwhile, Moon Lane Ink books will be dropping by Coal Drops Yard, and bringing their own mini festival with them – look out for great storytelling and book themed activities from the amazing bookshop.

The Let’s Play: Easter Festival will stretch across the whole of King’s Cross, with activities including planting workshops at the Skip Garden, a Big Easter Egg Hunt starting under West Handyside Canopy and free face painting across the site.

If you want to relax between activities, the grass steps have returned to the canalside where you can enjoy a picnic and views over the canal.

The Let’s Play Easter Festival will run from 6-22 April, and a full line-up of events can be found below:

EASTER EXPRESS: Granary Square, Coal Drops Yard, 6 – 22 April, 12 – 8pm (Sundays: 12-5pm)

All aboard the Easter Express! Jump on the 1960’s vintage Dotto classic Land Train at Granary Square (with a Flower Power makeover!). Take a tour of King’s Cross, from Granary Square, through West Handyside Canopy to Coal Drops Yard, and enjoy all sorts of Easter fun along the way.

STORE STORE – ‘CHALK-BY-NUMBERS’: Lewis Cubitt Square, 6 – 22 April, 12 – 5pm

Can you stay inside the lines? Join STORE Store throughout the Easter break and help us colour Lewis Cubitt Square by numbers.

STORE STORE – ‘ART SELFIE BOOTHS’: Coal Drops Yard, 6 – 22 April

STORE Store are creating diorama selfie booths which reflect the history of Coal Drops Yard. Follow the map to find the booths around Coal Drops Yard, strike a pose and take a photo home with you.

DAILY EASTER ART AND CRAFT ACTIVITIES: Let’s Play space, Coal Drops Yard, 6 – 22 April, 12 ­– 5pm.

Every single day for seventeen days there will be free workshops and activities, for all ages, across King’s Cross. Taking classic Easter fun – like Easter bonnet making, egg decorating and rolling – and giving them a contemporary, arty twist. With guest makers from Crafty Fox, artists from Made in Arts London, students from Central Saint Martins and whole range of artists, makers, illustrators and designers bringing something new to do every day.

FREE FACE PAINTING: across site, 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 April, 12 – 4pm

Face painting always brings a smile. Our artists will be on hand each day to transform your little ones. Head to the photo booth afterwards to capture their alter ego.

BALLOON ART: across site, 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 April, 12 – 4pm

Our balloon artists will be spreading a little bit of joy with their twisted creations. Throughout the weekends in the Easter holiday.

SKIP GARDEN EASTER GARDEN TRAIL, Skip Garden, 6 – 20 April, 10 – 4pm (Closed Mon and Sun)

Explore the garden with this fun trail; find all the little critters and treasures to claim your prize.

HICCE JUNIOR CHEFS WORKSHOPS: Hicce, Coal Drops Yard, 8-19 April, 10.30am

Hicce are hosting the second series of their Junior Chefs workshops over the Easter holidays.
Starting with a big old Easter egg hunt, followed by Willy Wonka-esque chocolate egg painting, then a healthy and nutritious lunch with a homemade sugar-free soft drink
For children aged 5+. Lunch booking required. Parents are required to accompany children throughout. Tickets are £15/child and are available at www.hicce.co.uk/tickets

COLLAGE CLUB LDN: 8, 10, 15 April, 12-4pm

Swap pencils for scissors and a wealth of beautiful papers at Collage Club’s workshops, perfect for anyone of any age keen to flex the3ir creative muscles and get making without having to produce perfectly proportioned, boring drawings.  Each session features different activities including speed-collaging and collaborative image-making. All cutting and sticking abilities are welcome and all materials are provided! #westicktogether

THE AMAZING ART CART: Coal Drops Yard, 10 April, 12-5pm

The Amazing Art Cart will be pulling up into King’s Cross. Run by Dawn East and a team of illustrators, painters and designers, it is a versatile mobile art station providing stylish creative workshops for all ages. 

SKIP GARDEN SPRING WORKSHOPS: The Skip Garden, 11 and 18 April, 12-4pm

Join our gardeners to learn all about growing organically in the city. There will be garden crafts including seed bombs and making paper pots. Global Generation’s Skip Garden is a community garden with a twist, it is fully moveable!  

MOON LANE BOOKS – FESTIVAL OF FUN: Coal Drops Yard, 12, 13, 14 April, 10am – 5pm

The amazing Moon Lane Books will be at Coals Drop Yard for a three-day action-packed, fun-filled extravaganza! Join Gilbert Giggles, master of disaster, and author Tamara Macfarlane for some circus, creative writing workshops and even a Bad-Mannered Tea Party.

Moon Lane Books is a specialist children’s bookshop dedicated to raising equality in children’s books. We work with emerging and well-established creatives to support London’s diverse population.

SEVERE JAZZ WARNING: Canopy Market, West Handyside Canopy, 13 April, 12- 3pm

The 16-piece jazz orchestra return to Canopy Market, after an unbelievably popular, knockout set at Christmas. 

YOUNG GEOMETETRIST WORKSHOP: STORE Store, Coal Drops Yard,15 April, 2-5pm

STORE Store present the Young Geometrist Workshop, a fun origami workshop for kids from 8-15 years old.  This workshop will guide you in how to make and decorate paper geometrical structures as Easter decorations, utilising “The Geometrist” method. Using only a pencil, a pair of scissors and paper glue, a simple craft process will enable you to complete beautiful polyhedra shapes. TICKETED: £25 + £2.52 fee

CERAMICS WORKSHOP WITH MATILDA MORETON: Let’s Play Space, Coal Drops Yard, 18 April, 6-8.30pm

Brilliant ceramicist, Matilda Moreton, will expertly take you through the essentials of making with clay – be it classic tableware or something more experimental! Matilda is a ceramics teacher at Central Saint Martins.

ANIMAL WELLBEING WORKSHOP: West Handyside Canopy, 19 April 12-3pm

Join the experts from the Royal Veterinary College for a workshop that teaches you about how animals eat, sleep and play. If you have a pet, or are thinking about getting one, you’ll learn how to understand and care for them better.

CANOPY MARKET PETTING ZOO: Canopy Market, West Handyside Canopy, 19 – 22 April, 11am – 5pm

Say hello to the guinea-pigs, rabbits, chickens and ducks and (we hope!) chicks and ducklings at the Canopy Market petting zoo. Every day over the Easter weekend, the team from Vauxhall City Farm will be on hand to tell you all about the animals and give you a chance to meet and pet them.

THE BIG EASTER EGG HUNT: Canopy Market, West Handyside Canopy, 19 – 22 April, 12- 5pm

It’s on! Grab a map a join the hunt around Canopy Market, find the clues and win some delicious Easter eggs. There’s a chocolate treat for everyone who takes part.

AMWA DESIGNS: Let’s Play Space, Coal Drops Yard, 19 April, 4.30-7pm

Join Chrissa Amuah of AMWA Design as she shows you how to make cool Easter-themed tote bags. AMWA Designs creates handmade textiles and print designs for the home, inspired by Adinkra symbols and proverbs of Ghana. The symbols serve a decorative function, but also convey traditional wisdoms and adages.


Calling everyone who’s interested in learning about climate change! Students from the Grantham Institute at Imperial College will be at King’s Cross running interactive family workshops. Discover how we travel and even how we eat will change in the future as we develop new tools to protect our environment – including adding insects to the menu!

DAN PEARSON INSTALLATION: Coal Drops Yard, 20-22 April

Coal Drops Yard is set for a colourful spring make-over. During Easter weekend, renowned Landscape Architect, Dan Pearson will be transforming the yard with a sea of beautiful flowers.  Come watch this installation take shape and grow!

BABY CINEMA – EVERYMAN: Handyside Street, every Tuesday morning

New parents don’t need to miss out of the latest films. For mums and dads with babies under one year – enjoy the latest releases at The Everyman King’s Cross.

GRASS STEPS: Granary Square, from 29 March

The green steps are back by popular demand for a sixth year, allowing visitors, students, shoppers, office workers, sun worshipers and picnickers alike to sit by the canal and enjoy the surrounding area and (hopefully) the sunshine.


‘Adopt’ a chocolate bunny from the Alain Ducasse 2019 Easter Collection. The highlight of the 2019 collection is The Easter Bunny with a cascade of small almond praline eggs inside. The Hide and Seek Bunny is a treat perfect for an Easter egg hunt while The Travelling Bunny is filled with a hazelnut praline plus Easter hens, eggs and more.


HAPPY FACE KIDS PIZZA: Handyside Street, all day every day

Need a pit-stop? The kids menu at Happy Face Pizzeria is perfect – offering doughballs, 6″ pizza and gelato for just £6. The Happy Face colouring-in pages will keep your bambino/bambina occupied while your pizzas are baking.

FAMILY SUNDAY AT THE LIGHTERMAN: Granary Square, every Sunday

Gather the family for a brisk walk along the Regent’s Canal and then cosy up with a Sunday roast at The Lighterman. You’ll find traditional roast meats, a nut roast veggie option and all your favourite trimmings. Kids eat for half the price!

KIDS MENUS AT CASA PASTOR: Coal Drops Yard, all day every day

Casa Pastor and its outdoor neighbour, Plaza Pastor are offering special kids menus throughout Easter. There’s something here to please even the choosiest of customers, including Tacos, quesadillas, tortas and sides, with ice cream options to round things off. SKIP GARDEN – KIDS EAT FREE: The Skip Garden, 19-20 April, 12-2pm

Have you tried the delicious, homemade food at the Skip Garden yet? Over the Easter weekend, kids eat free with every adult lunch. The offer is for kids up to 10 years and max 2 children per dining adult.

Please note there is FREE parking at the Handyside car park over the Easter holiday weekends (6-7, 13-14, 19-22 April) with 200 spaces, subject to availability.
