NewDay takes office space at Midland Goods Shed

Posted: Wednesday 20th July 2016

Consumer finance provider NewDay has today confirmed the exchange on a deal which will see its London team move to a new home in the Midland Goods Shed, King’s Cross.

The deal is one of the first significant leasing agreements to be announced since the EU Referendum decision, suggesting continued confidence in the central London office market.

NewDay is currently located in Two Pancras Square; it will take 30,000 sq ft of space in the Midland Goods Shed, a doubling of its previous take-up.

Midland Goods Shed is in the heart of King’s Cross, next to the Waitrose food store and cookery school, Central Saint Martins and Everyman Cinema, which will be opening in 2017.

The Grade II Listed Midland Goods Shed was built in 1850 as a temporary passenger terminal while King’s Cross station was being built, and was then used for handling and storing goods brought to King’s Cross from across the country. It has now been sympathetically restored and converted into a contemporary design, led by Bennetts Associates.

James Corcoran, Chief Executive Officer at NewDay, said:

“We are proud to have called King’s Cross our London home for the last two years and we are delighted to have secured this larger space in the Midland Goods Shed. This is perfect place for NewDay’s growing team as we continue to invest in our future with confidence.”

Will Colthorpe, Partner at Argent (King’s Cross), said:

“NewDay’s announcement is more good news for King’s Cross. It is a testament to King’s Cross, and the ongoing success of the development, to have re-let the space so quickly to a leading consumer finance provider. By mid- 2017 we expect to have over 12,000 people working at King’s Cross, confirming its reputation as London’s new office destination and leading the way in workplace design and performance.”

Midland Goods Shed is now fully let. Across the whole development, however, approximately just under 800,000 sq ft of the 3 million sq ft of office space remains available.

Newton Perkins acted for NewDay; Savills and Cushman and Wakefield are acting for the KCCLP.
