In September a brand new Waitrose will be opening in the heart of King’s Cross, and in preparation, Waitrose has today announced the appointment of the 20,000 square foot store’s Branch Manager, alongside the successful recruitment of over 200 new staff.
The store, which will be located in the centre of 67 acres of new buildings at King’s Cross, is currently being built in the restored Grade II-listed Midland Goods Shed, and will come complete with a cookery school.
Ed Barton, who has managed the successful Marylebone Waitrose branch for the last 15 years, has been brought on board as the King’s Cross Branch Manager, responsible for leading on the store vision, staffing and from its opening in September, its overall running.
Ed has started off his role by assembling the new team to run the store, with a focus on employment for local people.
Whilst recruitment deadline for the store have now passed, Waitrose is still recruiting for roles within the Waitrose Cookery School. Jobs are being advertised through www.jlpjobs.com, with support from KX Recruit.
The shop will create more than 200 new full- and part-time jobs for the area, with all successful applicants becoming Partners in the John Lewis Partnership, the UK’s largest and oldest example of employee ownership.
Speaking about the new store, and the exciting prospects ahead, Ed Barton, Waitrose King’s Cross Branch Manager, said:
“I’m delighted to have been selected to run this exciting new store – in the heart of King’s Cross. The store is really starting to take shape now and we cannot wait to become part of the community. We are also pleased to be in a position where we can create jobs for local people and invest in their training.”
“Our aim is to ensure that the store is a real amenity for the area, and that starts with the staff we employ. This will be an exciting new venture for the partnership, and we look forward to selecting and welcoming successful candidates”.
