The organisation also organises social activities, inter-generational initiatives, exercise activities, and opportunities for older people to have their voices heard through the Older People’s Reference Group.
Camden Town Shed provides a workspace with benches, tools and materials where older people can make and mend alongside others. Members work on their own projects as they choose and at their own pace, or on community projects such as making children’s archery targets, nursery equipment or planters. The club is run by the members who also decide when they come. Woodworking is the main activity at present, but the centre is also equipped with a small kiln and it is hoped to introduce clay work or other arts activities. Islington Giving is a campaign to tackle poverty and isolation within Islington by taking action to improve people’s lives. Islington Giving tackles three main areas to affect change “Investing in Young People”, “Tackling Poverty” and “Confronting Isolation”. Islington Giving does this by working through grassroots organisations in the local area on all three themes.
