Since opening earlier this year, The Lighterman, in Granary Square, has quickly become a favourite amongst those who live, work, study or just play in King’s Cross.

Located on the Regent’s Canal, the bar and restaurant boasts a British menu with European influences for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.

We caught up with head chef Aaron Ashmore to find out what he likes about King’s Cross and, perhaps more importantly, to get his suggestions on what to pick from the menu.

Aaron, a semi-finalist on Masterchef: The Professionals in 2012 who has previously worked top chefs such as Marcus Wareing and Angela Hartnett, said: “It has been great since we opened. King’s Cross is fast becoming the place to be and I never realised we would get so many walk-ins.

“There is a really good atmosphere here and a good mix of students, workers and residents. The events are also great as well and mean there is never a shortage of people around.”

The chef, who describes The Lighterman as “very cool and casual but with a focus on good food” said that it is a place for everyone. “We want to be the place to go for a great meal, a casual drink or a celebration,” he said.

“We have just launched a new breakfast menu and we hope that people will come and enjoy some good food  to start their day.”

Having eaten there ourselves many a time, we can certainly recommend the Lighterman Full English – especially on a weekend having indulged in one too many the night before. But what do we know? Much better you hear it from the man himself, so what are Aaron’s favourite menu choices?

“For breakfast, I’m a fan of the Chia and Yoghurt pot. It’s super healthy but also very tasty! I do also love the Eggs Benedict and Eggs Roayle though.

“As a main, you can’t go far wrong with the Ribeye from the wood fired grill. It has a great meat to fat ratio and it’s cooked on the grill which is essentially an open BBQ but indoors.”

So check out the menus here and enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or just a drink now! And if you’re looking for somewhere to book your Christmas celebration, then look no further.
