A Soho legend arrives in King’s Cross
Back in 1944, a formidable Italian lady named Lina opened a fine delicatessen bearing her name, selling her handmade fresh pasta, aromatic cheeses, and cured meats to the people of Soho.
Some 75 years on, the legendary deli has opened a new venture here at King’s Cross – their first location with a restaurant and deli under one roof.
The Kings Cross Lina Stores is housed in a beautiful old brick building on Stable Street, set over two floors with a buzzy open kitchen, an intimate aperitivo bar, and a gloriously retro interior.
The menu is a thoroughly Italian affair, kicking off with a daily breakfast menu featuring the likes of Tuscan fennel sausage, polenta, fig pastries and ricotta laced with lemons from the Amalfi coast.
For lunch and dinner, there are antipasti dishes to start – anchovies on brioche, celeriac with black truffle, rosemary focaccia – and a handful of mains featuring meat, seasonal fish, seafood and vegetarian options.
The real hero of the menu is the pasta – all handmade from scratch each day at the original 18 Brewer Street location. It includes the likes of pumpkin ravioli with piemonte hazelnuts, pappardelle with olives and oxtail ragu, and deliciously fresh crab and scallops spiralled into swirls of rondini. Pair your dish with a crisp glass of biodynamic wine or Italian-inspired tipple from the cocktail menu. Salute!
For afters, check out the Dolci menu to find crowd-pleasing classics of tiramisu, rum baba, creamy gelato, torta al cioccolato, and sweet ricotta-stuffed cannoli.
A taste of Italy at home
Just for good measure, the Kings Cross location also includes a mini deli of its own. Look out for salumi, cheeses, marinated artichokes, antipasti and fresh pasta to take away. Stop by during lunch to treat yourself to a formaggi-filled panini made to order, enjoy an espresso, and watch as fresh pasta is skillfully made by hand.
