Joining Caravan on Granary Square, Grain Store is the brainchild of chef Bruno Loubet and The Zetter Group’s Michael Benyan and Mark Sainsbury. The restaurant opened in June 2013 to rave reviews, and has been pulling in awards ever since.
There are no geographical boundaries to the eclectic menu, instead, dishes are inspired by Bruno Loubet’s extensive travels, and years dedicated to his beloved vegetable patch. While meat and fish feature on the menu, vegetables have an equal billing, if not the starring role.
Stand-out menu options include baked beetroot “carpaccio”, fermented beetroot dressing and spiced labneh; fresh fig with smoked aubergine, lemon braised chickpeas and goats curd; and baked onion, chestnuts and pickled walnuts with roast wild duck and grated chilli chocolate.
The dessert menu features concoctions such as coconut & kaffir lime green tapioca and pumpkin & chestnut pie topped with maple syrup and whisky sauce.
The bar at Grain Store is a destination in itself with an award-winning cocktail list from Tony Conigliaro.
If you like your drinks experimental, then look no further. Imbibers can choose from savoury, champagne or house cocktails, packed with extraordinary ingredients. Think horseradish vodka, infused pumpkin seed whiskey and prosecco laced with fig leaves, honey and verjus cordial. The booze-free options are great here too – try a French Blonde with grape juice, elderflower and lemongrass.
If weather permits, ask to sit in the pretty al fresco terrace overlooking the fountains. The bar is open until midnight Thursday to Saturday, and brunch is served Saturdays & Sundays from 10am.
