German Gymnasium Grand Café is the latest venture from D&D London, the operator behind Le Pont de la Tour, Coq d’Argent and Bluebird. Styled after the grand cafés and brasseries of Europe, the restaurant was recently voted the most beautiful in the world.
The restaurant is in the historic German Gymnasium building, a King’s Cross landmark, and the venue for the first National Olympic Games in 1866.
The Grand Café on the ground floor offers all-day dining with heated terraces opening out onto the squares. The Meister Bar shakes up some of the city’s best cocktails, and upstairs on the mezzanine level, a smaller restaurant and elegant private dining room overlook the brasserie below. The menu is inspired by German, Austrian and Eastern European cuisine and is a nod to the building’s German heritage.
The interiors are designed by Conran and Partners who worked with the building’s original features to create a space that highlights the heritage of this piece of sporting history.
