Slow walks, wellness and wonder at King’s Cross

Explore the wilder side of our city with these wellness walks and events from King’s Cross and Global Generation.

Camley Street Natural ParkStory Walk – 29 October, 9-11 am
Through a sharing of myths and legends of the plant universe, combined with the ancient movement technique of Qigong and meditative walking, we’ll build relationships with plants and people, and a deeper relationship to self.

Due to Covid -19, we ask that participants ensure social distancing and bring a mask in case it’s needed.

We aim to keep groups small, so spaces are limited, and we ask that if you decide not to come, please cancel your booking 24 hours before walk, or contact sue@globalgeneration.org.uk so we can free spaces up for others who’d like to come.  Book tickets here.

Pavement prowl of wild weeds & trees in and around King’s Cross –  4 November, 9-10.30 am
A gentle, meditative ramble through the fringes of Kings Cross. A wander amongst the green spaces in the fringes and cracks of urban development. This is a walk for anyone who’d like to connect with nature in an urban setting – from tiny pavement weeds to the mighty trees of St Pancras Churchyard.

Sharpening our senses we’ll find ways to deepen our experience and find mental space in the city. All welcome.  Due to Covid -19 we ask that participants ensure social distancing and bring a mask in case it’s needed.

Drawing Walk – 28 October, 1-2.30pm & 11 November, 1-2.30 pm
Botanical drawing at Bagley Walk Gardens. Meet at 1 pm by Gasholder Park.  Bagley Walk has a beautiful palette of dynamic and graphic plants with some great patterns, textures and colours to capture on paper or camera.  We’ll provide some basic materials to give away (simple notebook/pencils) but do encourage people to bring their own, especially if they want to add colour.  We can also take photos using a camera or phone and can give a few tips on how to capture some good close up imagery.

Beginners welcome, no experience or talent needed! This is a guided activity for people of any ability and everyone will leave having learnt some new techniques and feeling more confident.

We’ll meet at the Kings Cross Visitor centre at 1 pm and wander over to Handyside Gardens. All activities will take place outside, so bring rainwear just in case.

Explore hidden city landscapes, wildness and plant stories.  Focussed on urban weeds and wildflowers and our experiences of the city, this is a gentle, informal walk through the streets and green spaces in and around Kings Cross.  We’ll reveal hidden landscapes, plant histories and tales of travel, and use our senses to experience the area with fresh eyes. All welcome – bring any poems, prose, stories of nature in the city you’d like to share.

Due to Covid-19 we will limit groups to no more than 10 people and ensure social distancing. Please bring a mask just in case.  Book tickets here.

If you’d rather enjoy nature at your own pace, why not download this map which guides you on several walks through the area, pointing out where you can find nature in some unlikely places.
