If you missed A Harlem Dream at the Young Vic, then don’t worry! Hip hop dance company BirdGang, creator of the sold-out show, is making a whistle-stop appearance at King’s Cross.
Deja Bluez is a fictional Harlem speakeasy – a performance of popping, locking, circus and burlesque where Harlem Renaissance, contemporary hip hop and Victorian Vaudeville collide. This immersive cabaret experience is designed by graduates from Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion.
Be sure to bring your dancing shoes for the after-party! There will be live music and an eclectic score of heart-thumping beats and swinging jazz notes.
Deja Bluez is a free event, but as capacity is limited please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Just request a ticket from staff on the door on the night.
About BirdGang Dance Company
BirdGang Dance Company is led by artistic directors Ivan Blackstock, Simeon Qsyea, Quails (Ukweli Roach) and Kendra J Horsburgh. The acclaimed group formed in 2005, and is the first ever dance company to be based at Young Vic.
With roots in hip hop culture, the company is interested in stimulating audiences through a combination of movement, music, film, lighting design and immersive environments. The search for interesting movement led BirdGang to create ‘Aahehop’, the group’s very own movement style that draws on many influences including hip hop, jazz, physical theatre, spoken word, illusion and film.

The company’s credits include, A Harlem Dream (Dance Umbrella 2014 at the Young Vic) A Vice in Harlem (Harare International Festival of the Arts 2015 with the British Council), The Aviary (Monolab Festival, Luxembourg); Feature Films Street Dance 3D 1 and 2 (lead and performance), the MTV Awards, Sky TV Awards, Urban Music Awards, BRIT Awards and the BAFTAS.
The company has worked with the likes of WILL.I.AM, Mariah Carey, Jungle, Rita Ora, 50 Cent, JLS, Dizzee Rascal and George Michael and many more.
