Workshop: Creating Picture Books

Everything you need to construct a children's book, from inventing a character to getting published

Tuesday 24th April 2018 - Tuesday 3rd July 2018

Ever fancied yourself as a children’s book author? On this friendly beginners’ course with author & illustrator Claire Alexander, you will learn the essentials of creating picture books for 0-6 year olds.

Create stories with convincing characters, explore narrative themes, structures and writing styles, discover how to storyboard compelling layouts, and experiment with a variety of artistic mediums.

You will also gain an insight into the practicalities of getting your work published – how to make a ‘book dummy’ to send to publishers, and how to appeal to the contemporary market.

Introduction to Creating Picture Books is a ten-week course on Tuesday evenings from 7pm – 9.30pm, 24 April – 3 July. Find House of Illustration at 2 Granary Square, King’s Cross.
