Schools Projects

We work with local schools to develop bespoke projects that support learning. Here are some examples of past projects. KX Dectectives, students from St Aloysius, Brecknock and Torriano Schools visit CSM for their final workshops - Kings CrossKing’s Cross Detectives
This project involved three local primary schools and promoted learning about geography, local history, art, design and architecture. The project culminated with an exhibition of pupils’ models, sketches and written work at the Visitor Centre. The outcomes centred around language, literacy and creative writing and understanding and developing design skills. King’s Cross Detectives was collaboration between King’s Cross, London Borough of Camden Schools Improvement Service and Central Saint Martin’s Widening Participation Scheme.

Budding Brunels
Year 11 students interested in careers within the built environment, construction or design were given the opportunity to meet professionals working in these areas and take part in hands-on exercises. Participants gained a greater understanding of the range of study and career options in these areas. As well as this, they were able to enhance their CVs with Open College Network accredited certificates such as, “Introduction to Construction Professions” and “Interview Skills”. The project culminated with work experience placements with blue chip companies for a number of participants. Budding Brunels was a collaboration between the Construction Youth Trust, Central Saint Martin’s Widening Participation Scheme and King’s Cross.

Construction Counts
Working with two local primary schools, students were set the task of designing a new building for the regeneration site. Pupils developed a business plan with costings, as well as building a model and presenting their ideas to a panel of professionals. Learning outcomes included financial literacy in pricing their buildings, understanding different building uses and tenant requirements and applying these to a marketing strategy. As well as this, pupils enhanced their design and presentation skills. This project was a collaboration between King’s Cross and Enabling Enterprise.

If you are a school from Camden or Islington and are interested in bespoke projects using the King’s Cross development as a case study then please get in touch with your ideas.
